So I just found a tick on my boyfriend's dog a day or two ago. I took it off because I knew it had to come off and nobody else wanted to do it. I love animals so I'd do mostly anything to make them feel more comfortable. I just HATE bugs so I had chills for more than an hour after I took it off. I also kept itching everywhere. -_- I know for a fact that they will not buy anything to get rid of them or stop them from going on her so I wanted to buy some things to get on her but I'm on a low budget since I'm a college student without a job. Is there anything that is not that much that actually works. I've been looking at the Hartz products but they just seem so cheap to actually work. I did buy a spray and a shampoo that a worker at Petsmart told me was good since they use it when they groom the dogs there. It was fairly expensive.
These are the links to the products I was looking at and the ones I bought:

I just really dont want to spray that on her every 9 days.

You should never try to remove a tic by pulling, twisting etc, as the mouth parts can stay in the animal and cause some serious infections.

I'd suggest taking to the vets, just to check out there are no others lurking anywhere and that all is ok (i.e. the one(s) you removed are completly gone)

It really did look like I got the whole thing out. It was moving around when I took it out and I could see the head. I also drained where it was with some alcohol.

well if you are 100% sure you have every part
of the tic removed, nothing to worry about.

if you have even 1% doubt, get it checkout asap.
Personally I'd not take the risk, I'd much rather know
for certain all is ok.

I'll try to see if I can take her. Like I said, it's not my dog and this dog is kind of weird. She will not go indoors no matter what you do...even if you try to push/pull her in. I'm trying to figure out if she'll go in the car and if the vet will check her outside...hmmm...I guess I'll call the vet tomorrow.

One of the best, easiest and by far cheapest ways to remove ticks, is with a nifty little tick removal tool. You can usually purchase these from most vets and they work incredibly well http://www.otom.com/
This one is a bit more posh, but similar: http://www.tickremover.com/
I've also come across this though I do not know the product as such: http://www.tick123.com/

I did remove it with tweezers...I would never pull something like that off with my hand...ewwww  I've been calling a few vets in my area to check if they do house calls and see who can come and check if I took it out completely. I'm also going to bathe her today.

You can also try Brewer's yeast. Its supposed to help with both fleas and ticks. It comes is both a powder (you'd put it in with the food) or tablet form (we all know how much fun it is to give a dog a pill). Look into it, see if its something you would try. I have not tried it myself, as my dog is an apartment dwelling dog and doesn't have a tick problem, but I do people who swear by it.

Ok...I called my pet's vet to ask him about the dog. I basically just asked if he could possibly do a house call. He said he would but it would be fine if I just put some spray. It's the second link on the first post that I already had. So I decided to go over there and bathe her before so she can be clean and happy. I mean, she is an outside dog and I'm sure she enjoyed her bath. Unfortunately she also had fleas. I took a few of them off...as some were practically falling off. I took her a bath with the flea and tick shampoo and tomorrow I will be putting the spray on. It was so cute when her bath was over though. She was so hyper running around everywhere  Like I said, she only gets a bath when I give it to her. -_- So yea, I'm sure she's going to do better now.
