I have been stocking my tank over the past three weeks; I started with two mixed mollies and three red eye tetra. A week later I added two male, blue dwarf gourami.
They didn’t get on; as soon as I put them in the tank they started fighting with each other. One killed the other that very night.
When I spoke to the staff at my local LFS, they found it to be an unusual situation as they sell the dwarf blue’s in pairs?
They had some female dwarf blue gourami in, so I took one of them instead of another male. When I put the female in, she tried to approach the male but he did not want to know her and started attacking again. It got to the point where he was following my other fish and bullying them.
The staff at my local LFS swapped him for another male. The new male dwarf blue is a lot better with my other fish.
Last weekend I got a pair of pearl gourami and four black widow tetra, they all seam to be getting on ok. My male blue gourami is a bit of a loner, he doesn’t really have a lot to do with any of the other gouramies, but he lets the mollies bump him around a bit.
I’ve been offered a pair of small angel fish, that are in a display tank at my LFS, they are in a tank with two large angel fish and a lot of other large fish such as clown loach, one archer fish, an Indian giant gourami, that’s a bit of a bully and looking to be re- homed. The angels that I can have are really nice looking, they are yellow and silver. I’m a bit worried that they might be used to a more boisterous tank than mine and pick on the other fish that are in with them?
