Threadfin Rainbowfish, Please Help

Hi, yesterday I noticed that my Threadfin Rainbow was breathing very rapidly for no apparent reason. I did a 1/4 water change to see if that would help. Well, it didn't. Today, I did another 1/4 + water change and changed the filter and he's still breathing very rapidly. He doesn't have ich or any other symptoms really. I've had him in there for 2 or 3 months and he's been fine. Why all of sudden this behavior? Could someone please help me? Thanks a lot!

Ammonia is at 0 and so is Nitrite. I'm pissed off!

How many gallons or litres is the tank.
How many fish and which type.

Is there enough aeration in the tank.

Rapid breathing can be bad water quality, lack of aeration, parasites, bacterial, ph shock, the fish is dying, toxins, overdose of meds.

What do the fish gills look like. Do they look pale with excess slime or red and inflamed.

He died this morning, but they looked red and inflamed. I'm thinking that he might have choked on something since they have such narrow throats.

Red inflamed gills can be bad water quality, gill flukes, bacterial gillrot.

What test kit are you using?

Do any other fish show any signs of these symtoms.

Flicking and rubbing.
Opaque body with excess slime.
Red inflamed gills, or pale gills with excess slime.
Darting or erratic swimming.
Laboured breathing or gasping at surface of tank.
Red pin prick marks on body, or red sores on body.
Swimming in a jerky movement.
Spitting food out.
Weightloss.

Ok.
That only leaves bacterial gill rot if water quality fine, and plenty of aeration.
