I will be putting a small spawning mop in my threadfin tank tonight and based on their current production I should have in excess of 20+ eggs on the mop within a few of days, I've hatched and raised fry as per killi fish method using a mature species only tank with snails to provide infusoria and liquifry.

Sponge filter used and a tank temp of max 22c is presently being used by myself.

Livestock : Threadfin rainbow fish eggs
Age and condition: will leave spawning mop in tank for approx 4 days, eggs should hatch within about 3/4 days or so depending on the tank temp.

Well here is a shot of some of the fry I have todate of this species

Basically the parents lay their eggs in java moss that I have in the tank and then I move the java to an unheated tank with a sponge filter (peat at the base and young apple snails), the tank temp is around 18/20c no more and the fry seem to do well, the tank has been going for around a year and I feed it with brineshrimp and dried food to keep the filter mature and the young newly hatched apple snails provide the rest, I also use liquifry every other day to feed the fry etc, the fry are slow growers and tiny as you can see, they seem to prefer the top end of the tank above the java although they do move through out the diff. water levels.

The fry in this shot are around 2 weeks old and are tiny (I think even smaller than galaxy rasboras), I've approx 30 of them (maybe more in the java) on the go at the moment and do 10% water change ..... mature water, every 4 days or so.

Is this still available or do you have any young females for sale? I have 5 males but have been unable ot source females from anywhere. I would even be interested in buying some fry.

Hi yes I can still offer eggs, females aren't on offer I'm afraid and as for fry .... yep I can send some if you wish.

In my experience you normally get a higher hatch rate (better fertility) if you have the temperature at 24C or above. Below 22C many eggs won't become fertilised and many males will produce dud sperm.

The adults tank is warmer but I remove the eggs to an unheated tank, if I put a heater in the tank the eggs will mature faster and will hatch sooner, been doing this without problem now for 2 months and hatch rate is good.
Not seen any dud eggs.

no problem, I used to leave the eggs with the parents but never saw any fry so I tried the current method and was surprised at the hatch rate.
