Hi,
Ive recently invested in a JUWEL REKORD 600 tank with built in 150w heater, Filter and Lighting unit, I got it home and filled the bottom of the tank with white sand. I then filled the tank with water using API Stress coat and Stress Zyme and cycled the tank for just over 2 weeks. I then decorated it with a small amount of rocks, slate and fake plants.
Then i added 4 Cichlid Convicts (2 Pink/Albino and 2 Black/Blue striped) hoping they would pair off and start to breed! Was hoping to sell the young to the local fish shops which would pay for water treatment and food and it would be a break even hobby. After speaking to a few people in the fish shops they said that Convicts breed too often and have so many young that it makes selling them completely pointless! Also with a breeding pair being very aggressive they need there own tank!
So i thought against this...
Slowly i started buying small fish that where from the Malawi Lake as they tend to be slightly smaller than the US Cichlids and they are just as colourful!
So then i had 7 fish (4 Convicts 2 male and 2 female) two of them paired off (1 Albino/Pink Male and 1 Black/Blue Female) and started creating a nest and laying eggs, after a few days the eggs hatched and the Pair got seriously Aggressive towards the other fish in the tank so i started a new tank using the water from the original tank.
Im now going to give the 2 remaining Convicts to a new home (free if anyone wants them) and continue with the Malawi Cichlids.
I live in East London and i know of a few fishshops in my area ie. Urban Aquatics, Manor Park Aquatics, Wet Pets but none of these tend to have many Malawi Cichlids. Can anyone suggest any good Aquariums near me?
Also Ive seen a few 3D style Rock backgrounds around and i think one would really set my tank off a treat! but they are fairly pricey! Does anyone make them or know where to buy them for a decent price?
Ill try and get some pics up soon.
Regards,
Nick
