I love livebearers, mainly because I love waking up to zippy little fish in my tanks. I've been researching endlers and I'm just dying to find some to add to my other babies. Does anyone know of a good breeder, or does anyone find their tanks overflowing with the sweeties? I'd be very willing to accept them! My lfs haven't a clue what they are, and I'm reluctant to try and find them in guppy tanks since I assume they'll be at least half guppy. Please help be out in my journey towards endlerdom, any information on aquiring them would be greatly appreciated.

I have not seen Endlers in any chain store yet. I got mine at a lfs in Sacramento and have seen them in at least one other LFS in sacto. I would consider sending you some, but I don't know how hard that would be for them or me and mine are at least 1/2 guppy.

PLEASE DO NOT INTERBREED GUPPIES WITH ENDLERS.Endlers are an endangered species and if you inbreed them, you are making them genetically unpure, which could lead to the endlers turning unpure if they spread in the market. If you really want to interbreed them,do not mix the hybrid babies with the pure endlers. If you live in the states, try aquabid to get some endlers or go to endlers r us website. The future of this species lies at the hands of aquarist who have endlers. And as if you come across only male endlers in the lfs,do not buy them as it is better to get a pair instead

I also have a bunch of guppy/hybrids that I would love to get rid of :)

Many of males look just like endlers.

In my opinion I think there are enough people breeding "pure" endlers that their isn't that much of a risk of corrupting the species.. :fun:

Truthfully though I wish I hadn't started it, only because I can't believe how prolific the endler strain is compared to guppies. I had pure guppies and they couldn't compete with the endler breeding.. :D Now all my fish have some endler in them.

If someone is interested in taking some of my adults --or even fry--off my hands let me know. I live in Colorado, USA. I have never shipped so not sure what to do there...

I always thought guppy/endler hybrids were infertile and couldn't reproduce???

Nope .....guppys and endlers will breed as easily as a guppy and guppy ..... Alot of times the hybrids are sold as "Feeder guppies" but you can get pure strains ..... One reason for the interbreeding is b/c guppy females will naturally go after the most colorful male ....I read an intresting artical about that a while ago how the males are commonly picked off b/c of their colors and yet they are bred with the most so it almost evens out ..... Look on aquabid.com or if you see some dominant endlers in a feeder tank get them and see if you can breed the dominant colors out

I *will* have some at some point :) I got some I think at the begining of October, so hopefully I'll have more of these cuties soon.

Most of my lfs's had no idea what I was talking about either, one was supposed to try & get some but I never heard anything. The owner was convinced they were some other fish, can't remember the name but I know it started w/ a R. So I spent an hour trying to take some good pics w/ my camera phone so I can show him :p

Post a want ad on Aquabid, that's how I got mine. I got quite a few offers

Sorry I can't help quite yet, but good luck!

I've seen Endler/guppy crosses in the local Walmart. They're quite colourful, so thanks to the Endler giant libido, the offspring seem to sell well. I wondered where those bright colour dashed guppies came from. Now I know! Either the Endlers have track shoes on, or the guppy females just can't run fast enuf! Seriously I would hope the original Endler strain is kept pure and not endangered by this outcrossing. So long as people realise these are hybrids surely they won't try selling them as Endlers, keeping them in the guppy sales arena only and not impinge on the pure Endler strains raised by breeders? I hope the crosses stay around, as the crosses are colourful fish. Just keep em with the rest of the guppies and no hanky panky with Endler females!

i agree.I saw some nice crosses before and i felt that some are indeed beautiful ,but they should not be mixed with endlers and guppies.endler/guppy mix are able to breed, from what i know.Heard aquabid got a lot of endlers :D But i got mine from a breeder

good place to find them is in the feeder guppy tank, i c em all the time
but they most likely should be a cross.and how do you fish a endler female out of all those feeders??

I have been looking for some, and just happened to try another lfs.

.....They had some in!

The females were a little small, but I was assured both female and male were "pure".

One pair now swimming in my "Thin" tank, although I think it will be a couple of months before the female is ready to breed.

Should buy at least 2 pairs, what if the female dies(mine 2 endler female died,1 because she hid under bogwood, then squashes, another had a difficult delivery.)now i only left one.Hope your endlers survive,as you said it,you searched everywhere for them

Very true Lee an, however at £6 a pair, I couldn't justify the cost at that time.

Oh, and I have just seen in the Buy and Sell section here, a person who is in the same area in the UK as me who is selling them for £1.50 each........
