...it's hardly relaxing! I've been doing water changes today like a mad woman. We're leaving early Saturday for six days, and as of this morning I wasn't worried at all, but after today I am just a bit.

It all started with me having a very accident prone day. I knew I had to do the entire fishroom, so I started early. I set my buckets on the floor and set up the ladder to do my 55 marble tank, I said to myself "You're going to trip over that bucket" "Good call, I'll move it." But sure enough I nearly broke my ankle tripping over it anyway. I guess it was more of a premonition than a bright thought...

So, I'm syphoning the marble tank and *bloop* I see a white blur go through the cylinder and out the window, that's a first... so I finished skimming the bottom, stuffed the cylinder with floss and ran outside through the mud to recover a tiny marble boy from the puddle. He's alive, but he doesn't look so good. I hate to leave him.

Then I made a round of "top offs" on my wild tanks. I realized I haven't seen my female simplex in a few days so I dig around their tank and find her dead in a hole in the driftwood :( I felt so bad for the male, and her. Gah.

Then I notice tonight that one of my betta albimarginata males is holding, what to do?! So I finally decide to just leave him until I get back, and to put some more floating plants in there. Theeen I see fry! Freakin' fry!! When did this happen?! I don't know, but very recently because they're teeny tiny. Oh well, I'm leaving them in the tank, they're probably better off there anyway.

I hate leaving my fish :(

My kribs have fry right now too. I hope the parents can fend off hungry family members while I'm away. Otherwise all is well and I have no worries regarding the aquatic family members. Except a few worries about my youngest mahachai kids, and about the zoanthids in my nano, I'm going lightless for the week. Gah.

Anyone else leaving home this month?

Gah, don't you hate that?? Vacation is great until you start worrying about the fishy kids back home. The albi male should be fine if he just started holding, they hold for about two weeks.

I might be leaving for TWO weeks to go to my brother's wedding in Idaho, but I'm starting to think better of it... it would be right after I move, and I'd be stressed the heck out anyway, nevermind having to worry about what the fish are going to do for 2 weeks. That, and I'll have 2.5 month old juvies and hopefully some more fry by then too :X. I also have fusca, rajas, possibly some more brownorums, and maybe even some simplex coming before then :S

argh, the last time i went on vacation, i came back to find that ick had completely attacked my tank and half my fish were dead... they were fine when i left!!! :-(

anyhow, i don't think i'll be going on vacation anytime soon... *cuddles fishies*

That stinks, fishy fetish :( I left them last year too, and all was well when I returned. But I planned my spawns carefully back then! Now they're just breeding everywhere without me noticing apparently. I hate leaving fry.

Synirr, whatcha think about those babies with the albi's? You know I never pulled my mahachai fry, with no problems, and the same with the kapuas (those two babies are HUGE now, and their parents are nearing 4" ! I wish I could get a pic, the babes are larger than a full grown splendens already <3) Think they'll eat em?
And as far as that wedding goes I would have to make it a week long affair, max. I don't think I could stand two weeks away from home.

I'm going away for 1 night.. and I worry... worry my stands will break and the tanks will explode.. nobody will be around to save the fish and there will be 75gallons of water on the floor, and 100s of dollars of dead fish.

It's no fun.

awww i feel for you

my last holiday one of my fish tried to commit suicide by jumping onto the condensation tray the week before i left, had to leave it open for the automatic feeder so I was having nightmares. The journey home was awful dreading what i'd find, thankfully they were all ok :good:

Well, judging by my fish, the female albis will eat the babies the first chance they get. You have a lot of leaflitter in the bottom of their tank though, right? As long as the babies have a good place to hide like that they stand a pretty decent chance I think. :)

Aww Wuv I hope your ankle is ok now and please do try and enjoy your vacation even though you will be worrying about your fishy kids :D

x_x last summer i went on vaca. my mom's friend was supposedly taking care of my fish. when i came back, all my bettas were rotting in their tanks, my kuhli tank was half empty and the water was brown, and the community tanks had like no fish

I'm on vacation right now. I had to do water changes and all that stuff the day before. I'm worried about one of my bettas, as he is the same size as when I got him. One of Synirr's boys. He has not grown a millimeter. I'm also worried about the person taking care of my fish, I hope I left good enough instructions.

Yeh vacation worries me too. . .

I need to train a person for a week before I leave so they can feed all my fishies.

But you wanna know what scares me more than vacation. . . moving!!!!

Yeh - NOW THAT'S SCARY!!

But OA, Synirr's fish are mini's, so maybe that's why he hasn't grown :p But I hear ya about worrying.

Synirr, no leaf litter in that tank. It's the only one without it since I asked the guy I got them from how he kept them and he said in regular tap water, so I decided to keep them in clear water. I wouldn't worry otherwise since my fish are well fed, especially when babes are involved, but they won't have food until Wednesday. Ahh well. I went and peeked a few minutes ago and found a baby hanging out in a floating plant just inches away from a female. I took some pics and then the female swam off so that was a relief.

Missy Wiggles, I totally know the feeling you're talking about on the way home....that happened to me last year, but mainly concerning my dog. My husbands mother rode home with us and we were going to take her home first, but as we got closer to our exit I could barely stand the thought of driving by without exiting, I literally started to cry so they took me home first :p

Thanks Joby, overall I'm excited!

Wisperian, not comforting to hear :p But sorry about your fish, that must have been tragic :( I honestly think they're better off on their own.

ETA~ Sukie, I hear that baby!

Hehe, yep, don't worry about that... the majority from that line stay small.

Eh, even if they eat them they'll make more in no time

I'm having a trusted friend house/pet sit for two weeks when we go on vacation. I only have two tanks that aren't filtered so it shouldn't be too much work for the sitter to do a water change at the end of week 1 (I only do them once per week myself). We haven't gone on vacation since I've had the bettas, but I think the house/pet sitter will do fine. Our cat would be fine by herself, but we have two dogs who require constant attention. Fortunately the house/pet sitter loves dogs.

That first bit made me laugh for some sick reason lol

the kribs will be fine until their children become big enough to contend with their parents
