I only got into fish a few months ago, and since discovering this site have been on it pretty much every day - I love it!

I'm wondering though how is this paid for? I've not noticed any adverts and not been asked to pay, are the costs covered by some generous "fishy friends"?

I'm pretty sure the site owner covers all the costs. I can't remember ever being asked to donate or anything. I think he does a great job keeping it going. I'd imagine it's not cheap based on the amount of traffic going through it.

Good question, I did wonder how this site was paid for.
It's the best site around & can't be cheap to keep going, wonder if there's a donation button that can be used to show our support

Exactly! Maybe this thread can be taken as a "thank you" to who ever is paying for the site?

i think ip-boards are about $180 for the license or from $10 per month hosted i maybe wrong, and then sever cost to host and your .net name, you can get some good deals
so maybe 2 to 300 $ ayear

I know the sites owner is called William, but that's about it. I don't think he's a regular poster (but don't quote me). Some of the long term mods will probably come across this thread soon enough and give you a proper answer.

But I'm pretty sure it's as simple as the site owner covering the costs. And I think I vaugely remember the idea of a donation button coming up a couple of years ago...

I don't think it would be a bad idea if it did make an appearance. I'm sure the site owner doesn't want to come across as a charity case so perhaps a discreet button is needed. I would more than gladly donate towards a site like this. This is the best forum I've ever used for advice, help and general fish chit-chat :)

I send everyone who asks for help here. I like how it's progressive, I find alot of the smaller regional forums tend to be populated by people who are...old fashioned. I personally enjoy being proved wrong/updating how I work and discussing other ways of doing things with people.
I also love the fact that it's global.
