Hmm...I hate to think how they got the bettas in there, but as a temporary measure, I've seen worse. At least they can stretch their fins out and won't be able to jump out. Since this is in a market in Thailand, I think they're intended to be a temporary measure. At least the water looks nice and clean.

I wonder if that's their equivalent to our little WalMart betta cups.
It almost seems like that's how they hold them until they're sold...?

I'd like to start cramming people into containers that are the equivalent to what bettas are crammed in to live. It'd probably be the same as us living in a moving box until we find a home. Now, wouldn't that be funny? If i was the president I would implement such things.

Come to think of it - I'd like to flush some people down the toilet.
It seems like it'd be about the equivalent.

After looking at some of the other pictures it appears that these are bettas for sale. Compared to the conditions we buy them in these guys look in pretty good shape to me. Containers are much larger than we have here and the water appears clean. The hole at the top doesn't seem nearly as small as the "funnel guy's" for them to go in and out. Maybe I'm not seeing the real problem here. :dunno:

Yeah looks like you buy them in the containers better than the cups with puddles in

whatever...
anyone else notice how this forum has gone from a place to discuss what is good about bettas to a place to just ***** about every percieved injustice to bettas there is? this forum used to be a lot of fun, now? not so fun. didn't anyone actually look at the pics i posted a while back from chatuchak market? lots and lots of pics of bettas in whiskey bottles, don't recall anyone raising hell over them back then..why now?

*shrug* When a person gets worked up over a true injustice, it's a little easier to see injustice in things that might not be as bad as they can seem...like the temporary whiskey bottles. Horrible conditions caused by small temporary cups in pet stores and people touting inappropriate sized permanent homes for bettas could get anyone's ire up. And, if we didn't get irate over these on this forum, then nothing would ever be done about it. I think this forum is perfectly appropriate for discussing horrible conditions for bettas and working on fixing them. If you don't care to see what's going on, you have every right to not click on the thread, and I wouldn't think anything less of you, honestly. There are lots of other threads discussing the beauty and joy that are bettas, as well as those asking assistance in keeping them happy and healthy.

The whiskey bottle doesn't seem to be so bad. The water is clean, and it's size is to a betta about what a car is to a human, so I would call it humane. I stuff myself in a car all the time, even for hours and hours at a time. I WOULD have a problem with it if they were selling that as a permanent home, but I doubt they are. For the most part, Thailand breeders and buyers value bettas more than American consumers do.

It's all a matter of keeping things in perspective. :)
