ok, after the betta problem (see this thread) i thought I'd be ok, just minus the bettas

ITS SPREAD! :-( - guppies, the guppy fry, most neons, clown loaches

I tried a water change, and treating the tank (internal bacterial infection (on the second part of dose now)) but I've just noticed almost all the fish have swollen belly's, a clown loach is swimming erratically, only the plec and the gourami seem ok (for now).

will this treatment work (interpet no. 9)? I don't have a hospital tank (i really need one!!), so cant isolate - although it seems that would be too late now anyway!!

I CANT and really DONT want to lose my entire stock!! :-(

will the plec and gourami go the same way? will the others recover?
any help, pls!!!!

this is how my fish are doing one at a time first it was my mollie then my betta took sick he was bloated and a red place came up on him so as soon as I spotted the red place I jerked him out and put him in maracyn 1 and 2 it has been four days and he is starting showing signs of improvement but the bad news is one of my other mollies is doing the same thing If you find a solution let me know and if I find one I will post message you. in the meantime I will be looking up what can be done to stop this. lets keep our fingers we can come up with something before it is to late.

sounds very similar! At the begining it seemed "one by one". But i fear Its going beyond that now...

I'm also looking hard, i'll let you know if i find anything!!

go with the maracyn 1 and 2 treatments. they are strong and your tank will cycle again after treatment probably but I have had great success with both.

That is what I am goint to do again with mine I just wish I knew what was causing this to happen at first I was blaming the ugf but I dont know.

hi

I dont understand the "maracyn 1 and 2" - what does this do? how do i treat?

cheers

Maracyn 1 & 2 are antibiotics sold at most lfs. I have had good success with the maracyn 2 for infections as it is a broad spectrum antibiotic that is recomended for Popeye, Dropsy, and a few other illnesses. I have also heard good things about Maracyn 1 but have never used it myself.

The following links are to some brief descriptions of meds.

puffer it has been one fish getting sick after the other one, my mollie did then my betta got this what ever it looks like a pimple and his belly is swollen the my othe female mollie took sick yesterday she is swomming on her head and around and around I have never seen amything like it I am about to go crazy trying to figure out what is the matter all the water checks out to be good and I just bought me two big tanks the other day I got good deals on the both of them to but I cant stand to watch something wipe my whole stock out. at this rate that is what is going down I have searched the web trying to nail the problem but so far nothing.

It's the same problem!

it started with a female betta. she died quickly, and fairly suddenly. The second female quickly became ill with the symptoms, but lasted days, finnally she also died. The male died one day after that, quite suddenly.

All was well after that, for a day or so. Suddenly, I've noticed the entire stock seems ill. showing some of the symptoms (inflamed belly's mostly), and a clown loach has been swimming really wierd, near the top, and basically not very well.

I cant find a solution either? water is all ok. treated (and still in process) for internal bacterial, which is my best guess (and LFS's guess).

but, i have no idea, and appears now my entire stock is at risk :-(

maracyn I and II are two different antiobiotics that are used to treat different illnesses. maracyn I is used for external or gram positive infections. maracyn II is used for internal or gram negative infections. an infection can only be one or the other. as for the technical differences between gram positive or gram negative you would need a microbiologist for that.

My wifes tank experienced something similar just after we got started keeping fish, Our Dwarf Gourammis were the first ones to show signs that anything was wrong, we started treatment with Maracyn-two and turned up the heater to try and raise the temp to 80F. By the next day the Balloonbelly mollies were all acting weird and one of the gourammis was almost dead. We continued the treatment that day and forgot to check the temp, by the time my wife remembered the tank was at 83F  , we turned the heater down a bit and continued to medicate. the temp stayed at 82F for the next 4 days and none of the other fish seemed to be affected, unfortumately all 3 of our mollies died and the gourammis still didn't look good, luckily we had the 90gal tank ready for our cichlids and were able to move them from the 10 gal and turn it into a QT tank for the gourammis. We put them in the 10 and started another 5 day med cycle. We ended up losing 3 of the 6 gourammis but the 3 survivors are still in the 10 gal (their permanent home now) and doing great, fully recovered.

I don't know if the higher temp saved our other fish, or did in the mollies  , but I can understand how you guys are feeling, nothing worse than watching something you love get sick and nothing you do seems to help :-( ...keep up hope, they may pull through yet

some better news!

yesterday was really bad, all the fish were really ill! :-(

4 days previous, i dosed with interpet no.9, and the second dose was due. they looked so ill, i did a 35% water change, then re-dosed.

today, they look much better!! the guppy fry are active again, and no longer look twice the size, the gourami and guppies also seem better, and the clown loach is more active!

sadly, one clown loach was a floater this morning also. RIP.

I'm not out of the woods yet, but figers cross this isnt the calm before the storm!
