why you wanna come
okay everyone so again i went to the shop to buy fish but this time different shop, i'm thinking of buying fish that shopkeeper has for 2 months, he also recommended me to buy fish he is already keeping, he has 1 pair goldfish in 10G tank for 2 months, he also said that everytime i change water i should add 2 tablespoon of salt, 6 drops of anti chlorine 6 drops of methylene blue and 5 drops of medicine in tank

what you think?

Did you cycle your filter yet? you don't want a repeat of what happened last time.

I don't know a lot about cold water fish, but why add salt? salts are more for a treatment, plus gold fish are not from the sea, and goldfish should not be in a small tank you would need a big filter for the amount of waste they produce. I think if I'm right? one goldfish should be in a 20g tank, but someone will come along and give you a better answer :)

Might be best to post it in the cold water forum!

Noooooo no no no no. Please don't do this, or you'll just have another set of dead fish :(

1) Goldfish get huge, they will die in a 10G

2) There is no reason to add salt for freshwater fish unless you;re treating an illness

3) There is ABSOLUTELY no reason to add medications every time you change the water!

Where are you? It seems like these shop owners are giving out really awful, harmful advice. Maybe we can recommend a better place.

I think you will probably go and buy loads more fish and put them, once again, into an uncycled tank and I think that the fish will soon die and I think you will be back on the forum asking us "why?".

That's what I think...

Seriously, Nuke, we all gave you sound advice the other day after your 40 fish died from ammonia poisoning in a tank that you had just purchased the same day as all those fish. We all recommended you did a fishless cycle BEFORE going out to buy any more fish to avoid the same, sad, thing happening again.

Please, if you are determined to just go ahead and buy more fish, at least try to obtain some mature filter media from someone who already has an established aquarium set up. All you need is a small portion of their filter sponge to add to your filter and that will "seed" your filter and speed things up and give your fish more of a chance than without it.

okay fellas i'm not buying them, but what was said in fishless cycle thread was totally useless if i dont get a test kit, and i went to search for the test kit in 2 cities they dont even know what is test kit for aquarium/tank and whats ammonia etc

eBay/Websites?

You could always do as Athena said about getting some mature filter media but you'd still need a test kit really.

I fail to understand, our goldfish lived for 21 years! And no filter, a tank the size of a washing up bowl, clean water once a week, never anything like watersafe or other treatments, and he strived.

How many inches was he? I bet I have an idea.

water will have de-chlorinated after 48 hrs anyway - 12 hrs if you had an airstone...

There's more than chlorine in tap water and fish shouldn't be subjected to living in it for a day or two for the sake of a few drops of tap water treatment.

agreed, i just know that way because thats how i dechlorinate water to do a w/c when i un out of dechlorinator

i'll buy a tank that is already cycled and has Cichlids Fish already in it
I'm sorry but fail to understand what you want? Is it goldfish or cichlids?
You may see some of us on here a wee bit obsessive when it comes to fish, the reason being it that we've found something we really like and not just a tank purely for aesthetic reasons.
Goldfish are great, we have a 5ft tank with two in it, they're over 7yr old and are big, no room for anymore in it.
Cichlids (depending on the type) can be difficult to keep, difficult to know who to put with who.
I think you should really do A LOT of research before buying anything as, excuse me if I sound like I'm being nasty as I'm not, but its clear you don't know much about fish.
