Im thinking of adding some Khuli Loaches to my 260l. The current occupants are in my signature. Its a sand substrate and I thought they might enjoy burrowing.

Would they be happy with my current occupants and if so how many should I get?

They should be fine. The minimum group is 4, with 6 being better :good:

Thanks Rabbut, should I get ones that are a decent size so my Besmanis dont think they are food?

Hi JSmails :)

If you can find some that have been at your lfs a couple of weeks, so much the better, because they are another one of the fish that don't always seem to adjust well. Pick nice bright and colorful ones since they will be the healthier ones of the batch. Get as many as you can.

I have some moss balls in my tank, all in the same area, and they seem to enjoy swimming around under and between them. They are very enjoyable to watch.

Thanks for the advice. Just had a look at moss balls. Ive never had these before. Are they easy to get hold of?

Yes most LFS stock them but they can be had on "everyones favourite auction site" as well usually for cheaper.

Thanks for all replies. Back on the Kuhli Loaches, on researching there seem to be a lot of problems with them swimming up filters, is there something I should do to prevent this or not worry about it?

Put you some filter material around your intake on your filter, this will help. I had three Kuhli's at one time but never saw them that much, if you say you have a sand substrate you my never see them. Mine eventually disappeared. I have never found them to this day.

The filter media method normally stops flow a bit too much and can cause impellor problems a pair of tights is better over the outlet stretch tightly and held with a cable tie you also need to put filter floss in the top portion of your filter so that nothing will get blocked behind the tights. I have had duckweed and moss go through the filter and block my outlet pipe due to tights over the end.

khuli's are partially nocturnal Glassman probably why you didn't see them, also you can put a cave against the glass so that you can see behind some people do this by just laying a small piece of slat against the front glass, when I get mind I am going to put a shot bottle their with the base against the glass and buried but the top open for the khuli's

4 being the minimum group?

sorry but i keep 3 very happy khulis :)
you dont need sand... fine gravel is okay its what i have and they are able to burrow under rocks n stuff
sand is preferable though.
the more you get the more active you will find them to be

Hi :)
Personally, I Love my kuhli's!
I have 16 of them in my main tank, and they love to hide inside a few of my moss balls that I have pushed holes into!
I have moss balls for sale at the moment...PM me if you are interested!:)
Funky little characters, and you can get a variety of markings too!!

Edited: Glassman, I have sand as my substrate and I see mine everyday!!
