I would still try and find the fish because if you don't your stats won't look so fine. Remember corals, if you keep them, are particularly vulnerable to ammonia spikes. Sorry for your loss, I always hate losing fish they become part of the family...

Yes, it is vital that you find it since if you don't disturb the tank the ammonia spike will with a mass of fatalities. Have a look without moving things and if you can't see him then move a few bits of rock on top until you find him. If you think about what you are moving and how much that will let you see then you shouldn't have to dismantle the whole tank. Happy hunting
