it started just before xmas last year went to our new lfs and saw bristlenoses and after reading on here that they dont get big thought id get a couple so bought 2 after a month of only seeing 1 ( think 1 passed away) went to another lfs and bought another all these were only little prob just under 1 inch,
anway 2 weeks ago went to the lfs again and saw they had a new batch of bristlenoses in so bought one for my other tank which had become a little overrun with algae, but yesterday went for a browse and they had some little crackers in so bought another 2 little ones the saw an albino so bought that aswell so got home put the other 2 bigger ones in the other tank with the algae got up this morning and the algae infested tank was spotless apart from the sand which was covered in poo lol

the oldest is now abouth 3 inch the next about 2 inch and the other four are still tiddles under an inch

this obsession has to stop soon or ill just have tanks with bristlenoses in apart from my kribs and bolivians

I am going to make your day. Go to the link below, there are 4 pages of ancistrus- aka birstlenose

They are super fish! I started off with a trio of longfins, which included an albino female. Not long after they started breeding, and haven't stopped since! They are such a great addition to the aquarium :D

My bristle noses are always breeding and it gets really hard to stop myself from keeping at least one nicely marked one. I usually get a couple that just stand out of from the crowd. The baby that I did keep and is now old enough and large enough to breed I am really proud of

she is jet black and when you see her in the light she has a sort of gold haze over her back, and you can just make out darker black plotches of her normal BN markings mostly on her fins and tail the rest of her is just too dark. She only has a small white tip on the top of her tail and even her belly is darkly coloured. I can't wait to breed her and see what other colours I get. My BN's are just the average garden variety (I think...well the pet shop only called them BN without any other special names) but I do have a large marbled male so that could be where I'm getting the different markings from. And when I say big I mean it he is easily pushing past 15cm and it's hard (short of giving him a bessa brick) to find big enough hidey holes for him that don't take up the entire tank. Of late he has discovered the air bubble hippo head in the tank (not turned on) and has taken to hiding in the top of the mouth part of the hippo. So good luck with your bristle noses and when/if they breed (once they start they don't like ot stop) be sure to inspect the young closely you'll be amazed at how different their markings can all be, and I bet you'll be having the same dilema as me....ummm

I agree that B/Ns are breed a lot much like rabbits. I'm thinking about writing a breeding guide, it should take long here goes; instructions "just add water"
