Think I Have Enough Money To Set Up A Fowlr?

Well, I saved up money and got a nice sum over the holidays, to a total of 350$

And I found an ad for a 150g tank with a leak(I can fix if it I just follow a tutorial on this site) and no stand for 75$.

Now if I go ahead and buy this tank, do you think I could set up a FOWLR on a budget of 275$(I may be able to borrow a little from my parents, so maybe 325$) considering I'd use a very small amount of LR and a good amount of base rock, and not keep any corals other than very easy species.

That's a BIG tank and a small budget. Salt alone for the water is going to cost you $50. Add in filtration, heaters, powerheads, lights, and you can burn trhough that kinda money in a heartbeat on a 150g tank... Do you have extra income coming in to help this along?

I dont even think I'd start up a nano on that kind of budget unless you have a really generous LFS and lots of parts laying around. A 150g is going to kill your budget...and that's not even including most hardware. Even if it is a FOWLR, lighting will still be pricey.

I guess I'll keep on saving then, or just get it and set up a simple freshwater tank.

Should I still get the tank? The same guy is also selling a 55gal for 50$, would this be better on my bad budget?

I also found a second 55 with a stand and lights for 150$.

Hmm, extrememly low budget.....

30 gallon with stand second hand... ive seen em for 30 dollars but say 50 just in case - 50$
Single tube fluorescent light - 15$
Salt mix - 40$
you said FOWLR, 25 pounds base rock - ehh 25$?
#30 aragonite sand - 20$
Maxijet pumps (cheap and good) 15$


extra money for fish and stuff, maybe get a pound or two of live rock as a seed, i think it would be very possible if you could just find a cheap second hand tank and stand....

My current tank is 29g, and I already have a flourescent tube, so if I just moved my fish to my 15g(or spend 30$ and get a used 55g), I could set my current tank up as a FOWLR and have a little extra money to spend on higher quality supplies.

Or I could just keep saving.
