Been feeling a bit stressed - got some new fish over the last month and the majority of them just seem want to be boring and hide all the time.

The tank with the Black Knife Fish water params have been spiking

I did a thorough clean of my main tank, took all the plants and bogwood out, and the sand decided to through loads of fine particles into the water, so i can't see whether the new arrangement looks good or not

The whether is naff - rain, rain, wind, rain

My new tank is still not here - chased up the company making it for me - oh yes there was a problem with the transport

Oh yes - we've made it out of acryllic and not glass.... :hyper:

Our mistake - we won't charge you any extra   :D :D

It will be with you next week!

WOW :p

I must do the lottery tonight as well!!!! :kira:

Your going to move some of the fish from the 8 gallon tanks into the 80 right? Because you are way overstocked in most of them. That's probably why it's spiking.

Yea clown loaches grow to be 12'' and black knifes grow to 18''
Only in the wild. clowns grow around 8" in a tank and black knifes may reach 12".

But lucky you! a 80 gallon acrylic tank would cost a fortune compared to a 80 gallon glass.

You folks seem so excited about the tank being made of acrylic. :D

Please explain. This idea is new to me and I always thought that glass was best. :dunno:

The only advantage of glass is that is scratches less easily, and costs less. Acrylic costs a lot, and can be scratched ( but scratches can be buffed out) but other than that they are stronger, lighter, and provide better viewing quality than glass. they can also be made a lot bigger than glass tanks.

Thanks for explaining that. I had heard it could be scratched, but didn't know that could be fixed. I can see where the lighter weight could be an advantage. The water alone weighs a lot.

I live in an apartment (24-25 year old building) and with 185 gallons in my living room I'm starting to worry about the floor. I wonder what all that weighs? At least it's spread between 9 tanks.

But for a single big tank, with this in mind, I guess it would make sense to go with acrilic if you could. (I wish I could!!)

Hi living_dead :)

Fortunately, I'm on the ground floor, but there's a basement under me. The furnace is down there. Unfortunately, the building didn't settle very well. There is a place where, if I put a marble on the floor, it will start rolling by itself. I had a really hard time getting my biggest tank (a 55 gallon) level enough to use. :/

So sneak down stairs and instal a few suport columns you big baby. :p :D

You may want to lay some 2 X 4's (a few feet longer than your tank) perpendicular to the direction of the floor joists under the feat of your aquarium so as to provide more points of support.

Yup! I'll run right downstairs and do that now! :kira:

The idea of the 2 X 4s sounds like a good one, though. Thank you. :D

Auratus,

Yup - some of the fish in the 8 galls are for the new tank. :D

the BGF will go in when it is too big for the 8gall
the clown loaches as well :D

It is only the BGKF tank that is spiking - it's settled down now - I've been doing 25% water changes every day for the past week, plus they all have Fluval +2 filters, which keep the water circulating more than normal.

Just noticed that my sig was wrong - the danios are in the bigger tank, and the loaches are are together - thought that would help them shoal, but they all just hide under the internal filter (except at night when you can't really see them  ) Going to try and coax them out with some tasty titbits this week.

Why not do a DIY moon light just get a white LED and an ac adaptor it'll cost about 10 bucks but you can leave in on all the time and It provides more efficient light than any other source.
