I did a full range of tests this moring on my 24g, for the first time in around 3 months.
i know, i know, naughty me!!!
i have done odd tests here and there for single things, i.e. ammonia, phosphate but not the full works.
however i was pleasantly surprised that all of the tests were very good:
pH: 8.3
Hardness: 9 dKh
Nitrate: 10
Nitrite: 0
Ammonia: 0
Phosphate: 0
Cal: 400
Mag: 1425
these were easily the best overall results i've ever had on this tank, and just goes to prove that regular maintenance i.e. small water changes weekly/twic weekly, and replacing the filter wool every week, and of course copious amount of patience really does pay off.
still seem to have the red slime on some of the rocks/sand, but was very pleased with the tests.
of course i'm not advocating not doing tests, just that by watching your tank and its inhabitants closely you can gauge the quality of the water quite well.
if there is a problem i test, but if things all look good, i'm not going to do regular tests week in week out anymore.
