Ive looked in the FAQ and searched the board and learnt alot but still have lots of questions. You probably already know now that im dividing my rekord 60 into 3.
I want to split the tank equally so each part is 20x31cmX30cm (lxwxh) which gives me 3 compartments of just over 4g. I was going to ask about putting snails but after searching the board i now realise this not a good idea. Im going to remove the internal jewell filter. The tank is going to be heated but not filtered and it will have the lid. Im going bare bottomed with a silk plant in each section.Question time :D
1. As soon as the tank has been filled with dechlorinated water and is the desired temp can i add the three fish straight away?
2. Do i even need to add dechlorinator as there is no filter for bacteria anyway?
3. How often and how much should i do water changes?
Im sure theres one more but i cant think so ill add it one it comes back to me.

Yes you can add them right away, yes you still need to add declorinator (it doesn't help with the bacteria anyways...don't really know what you are talking about) and with water changes, probably 100% every 2 weeks or so, small water changes inbetween.

By the dechlorinator i meant that you add it to water thats going into a 'normal' tank to stop the chlorine killing the bacteria. What i meant was would i need to add any to the betta tank as it will have no bacteria to kill anyway. Thanks for the response, would 50% a week be good without doing bits un between be better? rather than doing 100% and parts in between.
Thanks again

You need the dechlorinator to keep the chlorine from not only killing the bacteria in your filter, but to also keep the chlorine from killing your fish.

I would change the water 50% one week and 100% the other week. This is because the tank is not going to be cycled. If you don't do 100% water changes, the ammonia will continue to build in your tank. I wouldn't want to risk the ammonia reaching a deadly level. If you don't want to do 100% water changes I would consider filtering the tank in some way. It is possible to kill the current caused by the outflow of a filter.

I have an internal filter that I use on one of my 10G tanks. I have the tank divided a total of 4 ways. There are three compartments across, and the middle compartment is split in 2. The front compartment houses my girl from Wuv, and the back compartment has the filter and the heater. The outflow is broken up by the divider. The water runs directly onto it.

In my other 10G tank I have a HOB filter. I took the peice of the hood I broke out to house the filter, and I taped it to the filter. The water runs down the plastic, breaking up the current.

Thanks for the response. Ill go for 50 one week and 100 the next. I will be getting a filter for it some time, But ive only just set up my 22g and i need minimal power useage for the first few weeks so it leaves my mum without a leg to stand on ;)
Im more than happy to do 100% water changes, I just prefer to have a set day to do all maintenance rather than have it spread out everywhere. So being able to do 50 one week and 100 the next will be fine.
