OK heres the deal, I had 2 angels in my 40 gallon tank, 1 has been named Serial Killer for a good reason :/ and I've been trying to figure out what to do with it (no one else wants either), but I came home tonight to fine my large angel seriously fin nipped.

It just hovers in one place in a near vertical head up/tail down position. Is this normal for very fin damaged angels? I have transferred him to my 20gallon tank as he was being nipped a bit more now and again by the other fish in the tank (gouramis and swordies). Its well planted and the biggest thing in there is a small swordtail. Is there anything else I can do for it?

Edit in...
Just noticed its been swimming around a bit now and again since I moved it to the smaller tank...

Also I dont feel good about this but for the sake of the remaining fish in my 40gallon tank I have removed the medium sized angel aka serial killer to a 1/2 gallon betta tank. I dont know what to do with it :( , any suggestions? I know its not good for it there but i dont what it to kill any more of my fish.

You could try some Melafix - helps with fin repair etc..
As for "Serial Killer" can you take it to an LFS and exchange it for something else - he may be no problem in a bigger tank with SA Cichlids that can look out for themselves. He may be the smaller fish in a decent cichlid tank and not be as aggressive.

Was talking to one of my LFS today (I'm spaced nicely between 3) and they said they didnt want it, but I may try the other 2, a new tank would be nice  I guess I could sell one of the kids to finance it ;) Any ideas how long a small-medium angel would do ok in a 1/2 gallon betta tank with 1/2 daily water changes, cause I get a scholarship grant through in a 3 of weeks or so (maybe be able to afford a small 5 gallon thank would this be ok for a few weeks unfilted very regular water changes?)

I would say that an angel in a Half gallon tank isnt going to last very long. I would really try and get rid of him or get another tank asap.
Could you get an isolation unit for the bigger tank or maybe divide one of your tanks up a bit to make space for him on his own but in a filteres , heated tank.

Good luck with the Angel - and convincing the wife to let you have another tank. If you manage that one can you give me some tips on how you did it
