The Tank I Found Today....

It has nothing, just the tank, no hood.

So I was thinking. Can I buy a 48" long x 12" depth hood? Or is it better if I make one? And how would I impliment the lights needed?

It depends on your budget, and how handy you are. I build as much as my own stuff as possible, only because I'm dirt cheap.

I'm not really all that handy, but I do have a dad, and he is really handy, just don't know how I would do it. Think BigAlsonline.com would have one of that size?

Sure they would. Or you could build your own. http/www.gcca.net/howto/tank_covers.htm shows how to build a cheap top, buy a 3 foot flouro fixture from Home Depot & box it out. http/www.garf.org/ has a stand building program, just scroll down the left side of the page to the diy section. http/cichlid-forum.com/articles/diy_canopy2.php is a nicer top if you want to take the time to build it.

Measure the top of the tank, if it's slightly larger it will fit with a small overlap. A little small is bad, they tend to end up in the tank.

If the canopy is slightly larger? Cause the top of the tank is 48 x 12"

I was also thinking a glass top.... But would the lights be too bright for the room? or how would I do that... I like the idea of just having the glass hood. Just a single pieceof glass with hinges so I can open it up and such... Maybe I would just fill out a 48 x 12" or 48 x 13", then chisel a little ledge out to where the glass top would go... with the hinges and such... But the only problem is lighting... Would that be a problem?

Was also thinking about putting it in the room where my playstation is. But I don't know how much it will weigh. So How much would the water weigh in a 55 gallon tank?
