My RO unit was very easy to install, it just has a threated end that screws right onto the tap, same size as those screw ones for the garden hose. To me its just a great convenience to have RO water available whenever I need it...

I was thinking about getting an ro unit, since my tapwater has rather alot of nitrates in it. All i know is the lfs sais i had terrible very high nitrates(i think he sais around 100ppm  ) in my water and now i have a test kit it turns out i have 10ppm or less. I went to the lfs only two weeks before i tested with my own kit. I did i 50% water change before going to the lfs for the water test, so thats whats making me suspect the tapwater, i'lll test it tommorow  .

Well over here our units go into the faucet for the washing machine in our laundries, but you gus wash your clothes in the kitchen, so I can see how that would get tricky! With no previous plumbing experience I installed mine in under 20mins. Just read the instructions, every bit came like it should have, and I was away making RO in under 30mins! For ease, its good to buy your own RO unit, that way your not driving back to and from the LFS. Dont forget, you will also need to add various amounts of FW (RO water) for evaporatio top-up.

For a 30 gallon tank you should definitely buy a RO/DI unit, otherwise you'll be making trips back and forth to your LFS all the time with jugs of water to carry. Over time the RO unit will pay for itself, actually rather quickly. Buckeyefieldsupply.com has some really good RO/DI units at a great price.

And while buckeye field supply makes exceptional RO units, something tells me shipping to the UK will be somewhat costly :shifty:. I'd reccomend going with the forum sponsor osmotics as they seem to have good prices, good units, you get a 10% discount for coming from these forums, and everybody from the UK says they make good units ;)

its 45 quid for an RO unit from osmotics, and they plumb in dead easy, just get the tap connector......

yup, we've got a 30g tank and it's definately worth it buying your own. We've found a decent system as Ian say's for £45..... so say you need to do a 20% change a fortnight that's £6.... and say another £2 a week for top off, that's £10 every fortnight..... it's only gonna take 2-3 months to pay itself off so it's definately worth it! :D

OK, well my own RO Unit it is then!! If I contact Osmotics and explain that i'm really not confident with plumbing etc. and ask them to advise me on a unit and a tap connector? Is that right?
:good:

yeah we've emailed them and they've been really helpful :good: you get 10% discount if you on TFF as well :D

Gonna order a 4-Stage 50 Gallon-a-day RO Unit from Osmotics either end of this week on start of next week (payday!) and then have the fun of trying to install it! The Brackish tank is now at full Marine Salinty!! So now it's just a case of getting the RO Water sorted, adding the recently purchased Aragonite Sand and Buying/Installing the powerheads (next week) then it's live rock time!! Not sure when i'm gonna have time to buy the live rock though because I have a whole month, 7 days a week of 14 hour days :S

I just borrow DI water from work at less than 1ppm tds I would be stupid not too. However it's only a 15 usg tank.

depends on how much you pay from your petshop... I can get 5 gallon for 2$ ... at my supermarket bring ur jug in and fill it yourself.. and watch the machine work.. its great
