Hello all,
For everyone who lives in the Yorkshire region, I called in to The Reef Ranch in Leeds on my way to work last night (it's literally round the corner from my house) and the owner, Chris, tells me he's closing the shop. It's a real shame as the quality of his livestock and corals, frags etc., is fabulous. As a consequence, all stock in the shop (including dry goods) is being sold at trade price + VAT. Anyone who's interested can get the shop's phone number from the website (just google 'reef ranch') ; I would recommend you phone first if there's anything specific you're after.
It's a real shame he's closing; I know next to nothing about marine setups, but I know healthy livestock when I see it. He even used to drive up and down the country to see and buy the livestock himself. Hope this is useful to some of you.

We were in there less than a month ago and he was talking about expanding out into tropical....

gotta admit though that chris was a bit scary so we didn`t shop there that often

Yes, just my luck as he's about to start doing tropical stuff. Never scared me, though. Can you be more specific?. I'd love to know any details.................

lol Ian posted that not me.

anyway he's not scary as such, more intimidating. he undoubtedly knows his stuff, really really intelligent, but he's not very good at communicating that to people of a lesser intelligence. He just waffles on at you in very scientific terms which is a bit intimidating, some of the other lfs's in the area are perhaps less knowledgeable but have a better way of explaining things to you. Also his eye's are a bit odd........

anyway it's a real shame he's shutting up shot, may well pop down for some bargains, any idea when the shops closing?

have to back up what vinylman say's though the quality of livestock is second to none, i'm no expert but i've never seen a single unhealthy fish or coral in the place, they always have a good selection and stuff too.

Ah. Well he's never spoken to me about marine stuff - I told him before he opened that I had a tropical setup. I think the main reason he's closing is the general expense; I know it cost a LOT to set up the shop with stock (corals, equipment and livestock) but I think the killer is the rates. As you say, he has no trouble selling livestock and corals, but that's not enough to keep a shop open, unfortunately.
