Fish Crazy
Thought you all might get a kick out of this.
With where my freshwater tank sits near the window, I kept experiencing wild temp. changes during the morning hours (window faces east), particularly between 9am-11am. Moving my fishtank isn't feasible at this time. There's also a plug-in under the window that is mainly a usb port for our phones (more on this in a bit).
I had tried putting a pillow in the window, but it simply acted like a heat stone and while the temp. swings weren't as drastic, still didn't solve my issue. I thought about a windshield reflector, but I think my neighbors across the st. wouldn't care for it and our HOA are sticklers.
So in the end, I decided to reclaim the plug-in for my bubble pump (convenient access to unplug at night) AND fix my Temp. Issue in 1 go..
By hanging solar panel mats with usb ports in the window!
I ran a wire hanger through the loops on the bottom to hang it upside down (usb ports on the top), then stabilized it with 5 lengths of bankline I usually use for fishing. Put 5 screws in the wall, and tied slipknot's on each bankline to tighten it in place.
I use to use them for backpacking, but ever since I got a solar battery pack they sit in the closet. Now we have 2 phone chargers coming from the mats so I can use the plug-in for my bubbles, added bonus!
Attached some pics of the project (sorry about the dog toys etc.) - so far between the blinds and the thick mat/panels, I've kept out enough light/heat that my Temp. has stayed regulated all morning, coming up on noon now with no changes. Last pic shows the blinds over the panels, you can kind of tell in the pic where the sun no longer comes through.
I drive my GF crazy with my aquarium so, figured you guys might appreciate this considering how much we do to maintain our tank conditions properly. =]
