After asking the manufacturers if I could pick it up today rather than have it delivered on Saturday (Fluval are just down the road from me). They agreed, it does mean the gravel and plants aren't ready yet but it's a start. I've begun to set it up using an old filter I was using with the 16.5 litre tank which if anyone wants they can have it free of charge. The U3 Fluval filter I took out one of the filters from my other U3 and switched them so they both have a 3 month used one and a brand new filter. They're all running and my heater is now heating it up to 24 degrees it's on 22 now which isn't bad.

I have also added some stuff which came with the aquarium from Fluval which sounds like it's a tub of bacteria and speeds up the initial set up cycle, never used it before so thought I'd give it a go, it looks like bread crumbs on the bottom until I add the 20kg's of gravel to the bottom tomorrow and put in the plants at the weekend. It says it can complete the initial cycle in just 3 days, I'm not silly enough to try that and think it's a bit irresponsible of Fluval to say that, maybe it would be ok for hardier fish but put angels or something in to a 3 day cycled tank regardless of the bacteria you added, they're going to die.

Yeh it's a 125, I'll have post up another picture when I've put the gravel in!

Just a thought, did you check it was ok to fill with water yet?

It's not full, as you can see, just wanted to start the cycle off, there's enough room for the gravel, plants and ornaments and any extra water I need I'll just add.

I didn't mean FULL i mean fill with water. Most tanks have to be left for a while for the silicone to cure.

Sounds good mate. What is your plan for the tank? I have the 125 too. :)

4 or five aquatic plants, 4 with a surface plant is a preference. a Coral air bubble ornament which is quite big.

currents plans are 6 x danios, 6 assorted small bodied tetras either a pleco or a golden loach and maybe either guppies or platties but not really keen on live barers, would prefer egg layers so I'm not infested with babies since eggs are easier to eat. That said if the babies manage to survive I'd keep them alive.

I have been toying with stocking around a red eyed puffer but I'll need some advice on that.

Oh the tank was sealed ages ago, it was the custom lighting which was taking so long, I have 3 light strips instead of 2 although I didn't realise there is no way to switch what light is on otherwise I may have rethought the tank.

You won't be able to stock much with a puffer. Oto's would probably be about it so it would be a pretty boring tank.

And yes, Fluval are rubbish for individual light switches. You could always rig up an LED strip of another colour if that is what you wanted.

Most puffers that I can think of need a comparatively large amount of space per fish and don't really get along with other species :( Cute, though!

That is a shame there is one at my parents store and it looks so nice, all the fish I want will eat my existing fish so I'm kind of stuck.

As you can see the tank is just coming out of its ammonia cycle, my gf made me get the spongebob figurine and pineapple house :-/

almost all puffers are deemed 'non-community' fish - simply because of their tendancy to nip with their rather larger 'teeth'. The red eye puffer is seen as a particularly vicious one as well. You could have a species only tank, but this one is quite shy and prefers to hide rather than actively swimming, so it wouldn't make a great display!

Nice tank choice - I've got the Flval Roma 125L. Had it for two years and have no complaints about it whatsover.
