what do you all think?

that is a lovely house for them. Won't they chew out of the shed though? If they start chewing the walls you can staple aviary wire to the inside.

They will chew through the walls of that shed in no time at all also there is some seriously high falls for chinchillas and they could do themselves some serious damage if they do fall.
To keep chinchillas in a shed you should have the shed insulated and keep them in a cage and only let them out for playtimes. You will also find a shed gets to hot for a chinchilla in the summer so you will probably have to use an air con unit to keep them cool. You would be suprised how many chins die of over heating

If the OP made a wire framed door with wire over it not wood, and attached it to the inside of the shed door, this can be left open on warm days. The same can be done with the window. For summer shade put a wooden frame with a cheap tarpaulin stretched over it, right over the shed so that the sun's rays never atctually hit the shed. I have done this with poultry before and it keeps them nice and cool.

I wouldnt like to keep a chinchilla in an outdoor shed without an air con unit our Garden shed is in shade all day long under a big tree and temperature reached 96deg F last summer in that shed
We even have to use an air con in the house in the chin room and marble slabs to keep the chins cool.
You have no idea how many people contact us during the summer months saying that chins are either dead or suffering heat stroke what can they do

this is routine. the chins are kept in the during the summer months and are indoors during winter. i will however need to get some avery wire as fenwoman has said. Thanks for that suggestion. it doesnt get two warm in the as there is plenty of shade from overhanging trees, as from today there is also fabric nailed to the inside of the windows again shading them. during summer a avery wire door replaces the wooden ones for the daytime hours so it is nice and cool in there for them. dont worry about the drop grahamsokel, it looks alot higher than it is. iv seen them jump of the top shelves on several occasions. its alot cleaner in there now, all rubish is gone and lots of nesting boxes are put around there. there are two chinchillas currently in there and i am planning a third. il get a new pic in asap.

thanks grahamsokel. uring the summer months or any season in fact when temperature or climeate is unsutable the chinchillas are brought indoors where air con or heating is available.
