I have a 60 gal that has been set up for several (3-4) weeks. It now has 5 Clown Loaches, 6 Rosy Barbs, 1 Albino Buenos Aires and 7 Scissortails. Too many to soon I know. But the current emergency is not a spike of any kind its my new Aquaclear 70 Powerhead. 2 Albino B.A. and 1 Rosy Barb have been sucked into the powerhead and killed in the last 3 days. I have the powerhead placed in the bottom third of the tank for my clown loaches with the cylindrical attachment attached to the bottom.
I would love to keep the powerhead in the same operation (location and setup) with a screen of some type over the intake but have not been able to find a product online. The only thing I have found is a Quick Filter Aqua Clear Power Head Attachment . The quick filter seems like a good product but I'm unsure of its size (particularly height). I have a Filstar Xp2 that seems to be filtering the water efficiently so the quick filter is not necessary for filtering (is it necessary to keep from losing fish?). Also, I'd like to keep the powerhead in the bottom 1/3 of the tank.
I'm thinking of DIY with a section of brand new screen for screen doors with possibly aquarium glue or a maybe even just rubber bands.
Any thought?
Please hurry I don't want to lose any more of my newbies.
