hey guys, im looking at getting a pink kissing gourami as a new addition for my tank.

my girlfreind has become obssesed with them lol and really wants one :)
if i get this fish would it be reccomended to get another gourami with it...as i like the pearl gourami aswell :)
what do you think?

thankyou. :)

Advise would be to sort the over stocking and compatibility issues you already have in your tank. If i remember rightly these gouramis get largish and need at least a 25-30g tank.

Kissing Gourami can reach 12" more commonly around 8-9" in aquaria but are deep bodied and fairly bulky, I keep mine in my 6ft and certainly wouldn't keep them in anything less than 300l preferably more.

I don't know how big your tank is or what your stocking is but I would think very carefully about whether you can house big bulky fish before buying the cute 2" kissing fish in the LFS.

They do tend to be a nuisance and persistant when they nonchalantly try to get slime from other fish... not aggressive though just a friendly "how's your mother??... gimme some of that slime... (here is one of mine pestering a Discus).

hey everyone.

just a bit of quick news ive upgraded my tank to 170 litres.
and on my profile you can see what i have in my tank.
bearing in mind they are all very small, and i no they will get bigger in time.
i have sought advise on my tank and the fish i have in it, and have been told its fine.
and my water tests are all good :D

i have added live plants to my tank to boost the oxygen levels aswell and to add a bit of colour to the tank.
ive sucsessfully managed to breed my black skirt tetra's aswell :D
so my tank must be fine. :D .....right?

thay lovly but can be bulles aswell,

Hi OP. I bought 2 small kissers in 1995 but one died after a few weeks. The other grew to 12" and lived 13 years. Lost it last year! He was very peaceful but be warned they do get big!!

The couple times I ever kept a kissing gourami the little snot would bully around my other fish a lot. Nice fish with the right tankmates, personally I am not a fan of them because of personal experience with what was possibly just two "bad eggs" in the bunch.

Wow!!.. that big???... I've had some during my days & never really managed to get them past 7.5 to max 8"....(& also never seen any bigger than that)... You havent got any pictures perhaps???... I'd really like to see that one.

No sorry have no pics but honestly he was exactly 12" as I measured him just before he died. They do get to that size in the wild but not often in a tank. Never seemed to stop growing but was a greedy pig and loved his food. I miss him as I had him 13 years and he moved house twice with us. A lot of kissers are said to get aggressive when big but he was fine and never bothered any other fish, even neons. I didn't get another though as after 13 years I wanted different fish.
