I like to see algae form in my tank before I add in any fish then I only monitor water parameters for the first month or so then just go for it, tons of plants, and wait and see, went 3 weeks without a water change parameters where stable over xmas and new years and they are still stable.
seems to work for me so far, only had 1 fish die and that was because he jumped.

anyway, what is your way of setting up your aquarium, when do you add fish, do you make sure your water is always the same, or do you just go for it.

I add fish once I’m sure the parameters have all settled out. When I test, and the parameters are all in order, I wait a week before getting fish. (I also test periodically throughout the week) This insures that the tank is super stable.

Fill the tank up with plants, turn everything on, take a picture of the plants, go to the pub, check weekly for signs of plant growth, when definite growth shows do a big water change, add fish.
