1 bala shark

1 rainbow shark

1 paradise fish

1 plecostomus

case: five of my precious neon tetras dissapere without a trace!

question: wich of these fish is the sirial killer???

You havnt put the sizes of the fish in but I would say the buenos aires tetras or the bala shark, bala sharks are best kept in groups and can be aggresive if kept on their own or in to small a tank.

Or the danios, they also get aggressive if kept in a tank too small or in too small a group... Or tetras who also do both. Or the rainbow shark which is just nasty generally... Or the paradise fish which can get narky... Or maybe they died from something else and got eaten... You have no shortage of suspects.

No. You don't seem to understand the concept of 'shoaling'. None of your fish, bar the rainbow shark, paradise fish or plec, should be kept in groups of less than six. Your aim seems to be to collect as many species with no regard on how to keep them properly (as highlighted by 99% of your posts).

Well since you have one bala shark it is moderately aggressive and it could of easily eaten your neon tetras. Also take into consideration that bala sharks can grow up to 12 inches.

I'm going with the paradise fish.

I wouldn't suspect the bala shark.

Possibly the rainbow shark, but most likely the paradise fish.

The danios/buenos aires might nip the tetras, but wouldn't totally eat them.

hey now, i'm gonna defend the paradise fish! :p this is a 55g tank; a paradise should be rather placid in a tank this size. even if the paradise was being aggressive, i doubt that he could wipe out all 5 neons overnight. paradise fish are a lot slower than neons. he'd have to really work hard to pin down and kill an entire school. if it was a 20g or smaller, then i'd suspect the paradise fish too. but not in a nice big tank like a 55. paradise fish are very territorial but they aren't especially predatory.

i'd bet it was either disease or the Buenos Aires Tetras. when I had BATs, they were big and hungry fish. they're also plenty fast enough to scarf up some neons.

anyways, i'd not really worry about it and just make certain to not buy any more fish as small as neons. feeshy is right; you have GOT to increase the size of your schools. and find that bala shark a new home. he just has to reach 7"-8" and then he'll definitely be the culprit behind anymore snacking.

I agree that the given what fish you already have you should avoid buying any more fish as small as a neon, stick in the medium range..... many of the fish you mentioned will turn mean out of pure boredom without other fish to "play" with of there own kind... try getting some friends for your current fish to school with.... :fish:

I think the neons are in too boisterous a community and I think that there are quite a few suspects. Most of your fish on your list are shoaling and schooling fish and need to be in groups of 5 or more. The only fish not in this group are the rainbow shark, the paradise fish and the pleco. I think you really need to up the numbers on your schools. Aim for more of less species. When tetras and danios are not kept in proper numbers, they can become agressive and nip.

Finally, what's the difference between the above list and this one?

5 glowlight tetras
7 neon tetras
6 blck neon tetras
4 dimond tetra
5 x-ray tetras
2 bueanos arieas tetras
3 surpae tetras
1 rainbow shark
2 two inch bala shark
1 pleco
5 zebra dainos
4 harlequin rasboras
1 paradise fish
2 honey gouramis
2 silvertip tetras
3 black skirt tetras
