Ok ok..I've posted about this before but I'm really wondering what is up with my bettas. Every single betta I've bought has never built a real bubblenest. Only one made a tiny one the first day I got him.

I'm so jealous of seeing pictures of everyones elses bettas building these massive bubblenests :p

Mine live in a divided 14 gallon tank with an airstone that I've set on low so only a few bubbles come out. It doesn't make a current in the tank it only makes it so each section doesn't get that coating on the surface.

I've got silk leaves on the surface which would be perfect for the boys to make nests around but noooo instead they just choose to lay in them  Theres silk plants in there as well. I've even tried adding small pieces of bubble wrap floating on the surface with no luck :sly:

I've read on here even if they don't make nests they can still be happy but how can it be I picked out all bettas that never make bubblenests??? :/

They eat like kings and are living in betta paradise...what's up? :dunno:

I had a betta at work for a month all by himself
then i got a second one who started buiding a nest the day after i got him

after seeing his neighbour build a bubblenest, my first betta built one. Now they are not in viewing distance of each other so he doesn't build one anymore... I guess some need a trigger to start building one.

Maybe they don't start doing so unless inclined to breed in some way. Like seeing another male for instance, but if there aren't any girlies around, maybe they don't know better. If you had a female you could put next to them that might trigger it.
