Fish Crazy
Hey!
I got my gibbiceps pleco a couple on months ago. He/she's a really gorgeous fish! I bought it about 2 and a half inches long and put it in my biggest tank, my 15 gallon rekord. With it, I have a male swordtail, 4 cories, 3 cardinal tetras and 6 harlequin rasboras. I know you need a large tank for a plec because they grow big and quickly. I accept that I will have to rehome him in about a year or whenever he is starting to get too large for the tank, but he is fine for now. Basically i am going to Turkey in May for 2 weeks, and the only problem with him is that he eats my plants! I have been putting cucumber or courgette in for him, and whenever he's eaten it i replace it otherwise he'll start eating plants again. The damage to the plants is quite severe, and many have died off because of him. A neighbour is going to be caring for my fish while i'm away but i don't want them to be messing round with my tank by putting courgette into it and pulling it out, and I don't want to come back with my tank's vegetation destroyed. Feeding him courgette has slightly helped, but I thought about rescaping my 15 gallon, so that there are fewer plants in there and they are finer leaved (eg.cabomba) so he won't eat them. I have a smaller tank which is still cycling (9 gallon) which I will move some of the plants over to and i will put the cories in there because they have been injured occasionally when plec has nipped them during feeding.
What do you think?
