Hi there...... I've got a tank with 11 red-bellied Piranhas in... they seemed 2 b getting on fine until yesterday when they started taking chunks out of 1 another.... is this normal behavior? They're being fed well although still a lil young 4 live feeders! Kaz

They are usually ok with one another if they are well fed, how big is the tank, and what are your test results in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

They're in a 120g tank atm.... we were expecting 2 lose a few so we got more than we wanted!!!!!! Nitrate, nitrate ammonia n ph r all fine.... did the tests @ the weekend!!!!! My poor kids were horrified when they saw them! BLESS!

Some experts will be along shortly, as I don't no what causing them to turn on one another.

it's huge chunks of flesh and bits of fins.... we've only had them a month so they're not all that old... i'mtellin u.... it's totally gross! :-( :fish:

I would suggest asking at Piranha Fury. There aren't many piranha experts on here at the moment.

Certainly it is possible to keep schools of piranha in tanks, I've seen them.

Well they are known for being killers.

THEY ARENT "KILLERS" THEIR ACTUAL PRPOUSE IN THE AMASON IS TO CLEAN
UP DEAD AND SICK FISH WITH THAT MENY PIRAHANS U SHOULD HAV LIKE 50
FEEDERS AND THEIR MOSTLIKELY ESTABLISHING A LEADER AF THE SKOOL THE
LEADER WILL EAT FIRST BECAUSE IT IS THE DOMENET FISH THE BEST THING TO DO IS KEEP UR LIGHT OFF IN UR FISH TANK THEY DON LIKE LIGHTS GIVE THEM PLASES 2 HID EVEN IF ITS JUST SOME PLANTS BUT THE BEST WOULD BE A CAVE AND MAKE SHORE THEIRS FISH IN THE TANK THAT ARE SLIGHT LY BIGER THAN THE PIRAHANAS SO THAT THEY CAN ATACK INSTEAD OF EACH OTHER MAKE THEM FEEL AS CALM AS POSIBLE CUZ IF THEIR NOT THE CAN RAISE HELL IVE SEEN THEM KNOCK THE INTAKE TUBE OFF OF FILTERS (THATS HOW I LOST I OF MINE "SCAR FACE")KNOCK THE HEATER OUT OF THE LITLE HOLDER IVE SEEN THEM JUST ACT UP . IF THEY FEEL UNSAFE THEN THE TANK IS UN SAFF THE WILL NOT BIT U UNLESS U HAVE A CUT SO THEIR NOT ACACTLY KILLERS BUT THEY CAN CAUSE SOME PROGLEMS

 A mod braking the rules?!?!?!

pirahnas arn't what theyre cracked up to be some times, the ones at my lfs come and "suck" my fingers when i put my hand in the tank, and these dudes are huuuge

>>> A mod braking the rules?!?!?!

The rules state competing sites. A discussion on the mod board a short while back decided that a certain short list of specialist forums could be linked at mod discetion where it was considered there was a clear need for help and an apparent lack of qualified help here.

In my opinion, there was a clear and urgent need for help, and PF is one of the specialist boards we discussed.
