Are these recommended??

Looking to get rid of the internal. Currently have a Rio 125l tank. May upsize next year. Worried that the filter may be too big/powerful for the size of the tank or is this not an issue.

Thanks in advance

I run two of them on my tank, lots of people on here use them and i've not actually read any bad reviews on them. I would say it would be fine for a 125L tank, but you might not want the spray bar on there and just let it work without. Up to you though, good filters, very easy to maintain. Quite big though, so check you can fit one in your cabinet, dimensions are on the Tetratec site.

All Pond Solutions also do a filter that is very similar at a cheaper price. I've never used one myself but i've always gone with the saying that you get what you pay for, so i opted to spend more.

Hi,

I too have the same issue. I have a rio 180, and the internal is awful.

Im going to be getting a All pond Solutions external:

Mainly because of price, but all reviews I have heard are very good. Ill be getting it at the end of the month, so if you are still shopping around, i'll let you know my thoughts :)

How so?

I have issues!

Dont get me wrong, it filters the water, not the best but it does the job.

BUT

The flow is not the best, and is difficult to direct properly. I have a fairly heavily planeted tank, and a big lump of wood. I have debris collecting all over the substrate, and the flow the filter produces does not even start to move it.

The inlets are inconveniently placed for me, and its ugly and you cant move it.

And it takes up lots of space.

I have bought that nozzle adaptor to try and position the flow better and it is still lacking.

:(

+1, though i've seen some observations about build quality on APS (though i've never had one)
Thanks jojo, just wondered how others got on with their internal
