I did not realise how many different types there are.

Can someone tell me the least agrressive and those that will cope in a newish set up?

Thanks

They will be with A GOLDEN GOURAMIS (was the boss but now shy and hiding)
11 NEON TETRA ( think they own the tank)
PLATY'S ( not really settled either)

Hi TetraQueen,

There are loads ye, personally I love phantoms and red eyes, they are larger than neons, but more active. Phantoms have some lovely colours and are fun to watch. They arent aggressive (only slightly with male to male) but never harm themselves.

Red eyes are a very hardy tetra, and given plenty of water movement, will swim around quite alot - they also live up to 5 yrs so you can have them a while.

I have nemerous tetras in my community tank, Phantoms, Lemons, Red eyes, Neons, Cardinals and rummy nose (which are my favourite smaller fish).

If I were you I would get some phantoms or Red eyes.

I dont think those pictures do them justice, they are both freindly and hardly little fish.

Hi guys I have got a picture of a type of tetra and I would like to know to which type it belong??I have uploaded it on an image hosting site and post it here....I found it somewhere and it wasn't written which type it is...

^^ Looks a bit like either lemon or rosy tetra to me :)

and for tetra queen, id agree with some of spooky's suggestions :) I would avoid rummy nose because there a bit sensitive but certainly, cardinals, black skirt and lemon are good options :)

Yes they do look good Thanks.

Yes I like the colour but they maybe hard to get.

Seems like I soon will have a very pretty tank again.

Now for quantities/

400 Rio

1 Golden Gouramis ==10cm
11 Neon tetras =55cm
3 Platties =18

so more platty's

Some bigger tetra Like most shown so far,
2 Bristle nose plec

and a few corydoras

Anyone help me do the sums for ratio of species

size of tank etc etc

I'd say Black skirt tetras and Red minor tetras are least agressive IME.

Those look like Black Phantom Tetra to me, they are also known as Black Shadow Tetra, the females have red anal fins and the males have black anal fins.

Congo tetra get pritty big and are readily available :)

Harlequin tetras make good hardy peaceful tetras, they tend not to look thta fantastic in lfs, but when taken home and fed properly for a week or two and properly settled down in the tank, their bronze colouring really comes out and shines, making a nice contrast to the metallic blue of the neons :good: .

Some really helpful tips I will look more closely

The lfs guy that I like told me something similiar he said "you cant really see the real colours, due to lighting, the conditions they are in, too many in these holding tanks and the travelling they have done to settle once they are settled they will really please you

My loaches and |Balas were the same.

Dont know why I miss the boring brown plec the most God love his soul I hope he is happy.

I can't really feel the same about these little fishes can I ? Or even will I?

Time heals they say trying to get enthuisiastic.

Doesnt matter how big or bright your fish are, you'll care about them just as much if not more :) you'll still notice each character!

Agreed, they are Black Phantom tetras - very peaceful and quite timid if kept in very small groups

I may have been unlucky but my red eyes were vicious - they had a go at anything and everything in my tank, even themselves. Like I said though, I may have just been unlucky with the group I had.
