Hello

Another question about tetras ,well i have 4 nice looking tetras , i was just woundering about the sex of them i have 2 with like sharp looking top fin and 2 with more off a rounded off top fin , could they be 2 males and 2 females ?

first you have to figure out what type of tetras they are before you can sex them. it's actually really difficult to sex most tetras

i have no idea what they are called :unsure: all i can say is that they are a fawn colour with black tails with red in them and they have kind off a large fin on the bottom of them with worm like things that hang from them which are yellow and white -_-

just had a look around some piccys of tetras can't find them anywere , all i can say is that they look a bit like the emperor tetra :unsure:

Sorry there was nothing at all that resembles the tetras iv'e got , i have even been on the web site of the shop i bought the fish from even they haven't got a picture of it , what planet have these fish come from :crazy: :crazy:

If you do not know what species a fish is, then sexing is inevitably going to be a matter of speculation. If they are 4 members of the same species and 2 are definitely marked differently to the others, then that is possibly why. Add to that, females are almost always wider and a little deeped than males - and in many species, the male is more colourful.

Are you first up sure they are tetras? Do they possess an adipose fin, (small fin between the dorsal/top fin and the tail)? These "worm like things" - do they come from the caudal/tail fin ventral/anal/central back fin, the pair of fins in front of that, (pelvic fins)?

From the side are the fish roundish or elongate? From the front are they round or flat?

Forgetting the details - which fish on that other site most looks like yours? There are dozens of characins - that list only has some of the popular ones.

hello lateral line ,i do think these are tetras , they do have a Adipose fin , the worm like things they have under them 1 is attached to the skirt i think thats what they are called and the other 2 are just in front of that then they have there normal paddle fins at the side , there top fin is black only 2 are black, the other 2 are black white and orange the rest of there body are a fawn colour , made it more confusing i think :crazy: :crazy: think i'll take a piccy :blink:

>>> think i'll take a piccy

Good idea - I'm thinking Anabantoid/gourami - Honey gourami maybe.
