I have a 72gal tank that last night I dropped 7 Tetracycline tablets into to get rid of fin rot. The water quality is perfect.
I noticed that the tablets don't really dissolve, are the fish supposed to eat that stuff? Because they're not touching it.
I'm supposed to drop in 7 a day for 5 days, and the package says that the tablets will cause water discoloration and foam may collect at the top. How would that happen if the tablets don't ever dissolve?

Take them out use a spoon to crush them up, then stir in a jug of tank water, it will knock your bacteria colony so i would keep an eye on water stats, good luck.

will do, thanx for the well wishes!

Tetracycline - is that not an anti-malaria drug for human use..?
I'd go for crushing the tablet up, misxing with hot water, and then adding to the tank. I've never used it myself (except for malaria -must just be a medicine with either a similar name or am going mad)

Actually, tetracyclin is a powerful antibiotic. IIRC, Malaria is caused by protozoan. Until recently, tetracyclin was only available with prescription for human use. Apparently, its now available for use with ornamental fish. You just need to be careful with it though. I can't recall if tetracyclin affected gram-negative or positve bacteria. If it's gram negative, it will wipe out the nitrifying bacteria, and you'll have to cycle the tank again.

[edit] just remembered that Mardel makes Maracyn-TC; a powder form of tetracyclin. I used it to treat my cardinals last month. It dissolves fairly rapidly.

I have read up on the fin rot, and on my redeye swords there seems to be a little fraying, a little white at the ends. On the neons, it looks like someone's been eating their tails and fins. On the angel, it looks like the top fin is rotting away, but no white. On my betta, there's white fraying.

1.)I assumed that this was fin and tail rot, could I be wrong?

2.)How will I know if the fin and tail rot is cured?

Thanks!
