Most tetras are omnivorous with a predisposition towards carnivore. Basically they eat most things but many prefer meat foods. Some species are vegetarian, pacu and silver dollars. Some are true predators like red belly piranha. Most small community tetras eat insects, small crustaceans, dead shrimp and fish, and small amounts of algae. In captivity they will eat flake, frozen or live brineshrimp, bloodworms, daphnia, raw prawn, fish and squid (cut up into small pieces).
