Test Kits Expiring/not working?

Well today i started my cycle by adding some pure ammonia, and i added about 3 tablespoons to my 125 gallon tank and tested the water and it said 0 ammonia. So suspecting the testing kit (liquid) i filled the tube with pure ammonia and it showed that there was 0 ammonia. Its an old test kit and im thinkin the testing solutions are old and expired? Anyone know anything about this or had this problem?

I would assume there is an expiration date with test kits as with most chemicals after some time.

Yes, out of date test kits are responsible for a lot of problems.

Most aren't as accurate after 3 months. I would recommend getting a new one, or asking your lfs to test it for you, but that's going to be a pain in the neck as you just started cycling and will need to make tests every day... Good luck with your cycling!
