Okay. I have a ten gallon.

Fish already in there.

1 VERY laid-back male Betta
3 female Bettas
1 nutty male Betta in floating breeding trap [it is a double one, which is usually seperated but I removed the seperator so he has quite a bit of ROOM].

Originally there was a 5-15 AquaTech filter in there but it broke. :grr:

Luckly a friend can get it fixed, at some point  , and I am waiting to have it returned.

But I want to add some more fish... I was thinking of some more Bettas [really don't want to chance it cause they are so tempermental at times].

I was also thinking of Gourmais or other fish from this species...

What is a typically docile fish from this species that can be put in this tank setup?????

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVICE... FOR SOME REASON I CAN'T POST A REPLY... PIECE OF JUNK FOR A COMPUTER.

I think you're already at your fish limit for this tank. You can consider yourself lucky to even be able to keep 3 female with one male in the common part of the tank, I wouldn't bring in any more elements to disturb the balance.
And if you choose not to take my advice that's fine, but please please do not put in a Gourami, bettas and gouramis aren't too friendly with each other especially in an overcrowed 10 gal tank. One of your fish will eventually be killed with that blend.

Perhaps someone else has a different view?

I think you have me all wrong there.

If i didn't want advice, I never would have posted....

Also, how can the ten gallon be overcrowded now considering the fact that Bettas are usually kept by breeders in a gallon each????

I'm saying they are overcrowed because they are bettas. Bettas are strange little fellahs, they need space from each other, not so much that they need space to swim.

By conventional tank standards it's usually an inch of fish per gallon.... a betta grows to be about 2 inches (give or take) and you have 5 in there already this makes your fish perfectly balanced (This is not always the rule). I consider a tank with 5 bettas (4 of which are in constant contact with each other) overcrowded, but that's just MY opinion.... it works great for you and I'm glad.

3 Females, 2 males...same tank...WOW! Just keep an eye on them, cause I've seen these guys do a huge turn around. One day, docile...the next....murderers.

And you know how females are w/ jealousy....and I've seen female bettas that are more aggressive than the males.

If you can manage to keep them straight and happy - you get my respect!!

Wow, you're lucky that you have been able to keep 5 bettas in a 10 gal. I kept one male and one female in a 16g once, and I wouldn't have dared put in more. Not because of the male, for he was a calm one, but the female was nastier.
