G'day folks,

See the two tanks I have below. Can I put the small tank into the big tank? it would only be for a couple of weeks. I thought I may be able to partition a part off for the temporary residents. I realise this is going to add extra strain to the biosystem in the large tank, could it cope for a few weeks? :dunno: :dunno:

The reason why i need to this is long and tiresome, so i won't go into details. I just need to store some fish for a couple of weeks until another tank is set-up.

Anyother suggestions welcome as what i do with these fish?

Cheers

Just one other thing, does anyone know how long the bacteria in the gravel/filter can last out of water? Just a side issue for transporting and setting up another tank?

If you bag the filter media in the same way that the lfs bags the fish then it can last for quite a while - I don't have any exact numbers, but I do know that I've moved several times and it always works.

I really don't understand. You want to put the 10 gallon inside the 38 gallon?

Just the fish. :kira: :kira:

I have nowhere else for them to go just yet. I cannot face executing them just for that reason. :byebye:

Like I said before long story.

I guess that it depends how compatable the fish in the two tanks are, short term "overloading" shouldn't cause too much of a problem provided that it is only short term and you monitor the water perams and carry out regular water changes...! :)

keeping up an "overstocked" tank is harder work, but if it is your only option then I guess you'll hvae to give it a go!

I don't see any problem as long as you do frequent water changes and test the water regularly to avoid any spikes. I recently had a way overstocked tank for a week or so, but really kept my eye on the fish and the water parameters to make sure everything was ok.
All you can do is try. I would suggest putting your existing small tanks filter going on the back of the larger tank and taking the gravel and putting it in a nylon stocking and floating it in the big tank to keep the bacteria alive. You should have no problems. Good luck.
