Hiya

Im having a few problems with my tank overheating, its a 10 (uk, 12us) gallon tank with 2x 18w T5 bulbs mounted in the hood, iv got average temperatures of about 82/83 today, have had a desk fan pointing at the tank for an hour or two and has made no difference. Any idea's? its a sealed top so if i got cooling fans i wouldnt have anywhere to mount them inside the hood, as there are already 2 PC fans in there now!

Forget that, think i have a fix for now, have removed the "feeding hatch" to let air escape, and have the fan pointed at the tank once again, down to 81 now.

fast fix, put some icecubes in a plastic bag and float on the top of the tank..

Just a hint next time you have a over-heating problem. What I do is get some glad micro-ware (the plastic containers that are microwavable, they are really cheap, saves cash) and fill them with tank water. That way if they leak there is no harm. Keep 2 to 4 of them in your freezer.

Cheers guys, never thought of that.

Temp is down to a safe 79/80 (what i keep it at usually anyway) have lowered my heaters temp and will run the desk fan with the lights as there are no probs during the night.

81-82 is fine. Stablility is more important. I run mine up to almost 83. SH
