Hi Guys,

New around here so thought I'd ask my first question!

I hae noticed the temperature in my tropical take fluctuating from just under 80 to 70 over night. Up until we got a bigger tank the temp was a constant 76 which seemed perfect.

Is this to do with the drop in temp outside? It does get very cold in the room where the tank is. Do I need to warm it up in there?

We've also been leaving the overhead light on for awhile to help our new plants grow. Could that be a reason?

Thanks in advance for any guidence.

Chris

sounds like the heater has stopped working correctly.
IMHO go and buy a new one.

Hi Gilly, the same thing happened to me last week. I looked at the thermometer and it was at 70F and I had it set to 78F. It looks like the seals broke and water got into the unit. When that happens the water heats, expands, and cracks the glass. Be careful to unplug the heater b4 you remove it. Also you may want to wear a glove just in case there's broken glass. My heater cracked but did not shatter.
