my temperature is changing to much. it changes about 6 degrees from morning to night. from about 77 to 82.

this cant be good, and i would put my heater to 82, but i think that is to high for a normal temp of water.

what can i do, cause it got some of my fish sick, who got ich (which i read can be caused my to much change in water temp.

hmmm, is your tank close to the window or something? it could be to close to the outside air, or maybe your heater is malfunctioning somewhat, my temp goes up and down about 2 or 3 degrees, but ive never had it near 6!

Is it close to a window ? how long have you had the problem ? maybe you need a new heater . or some how cool your water . 82 degrees is a little high but nothing most fish can't tolerate . try raising the temp 79 or 80 for a while , you won't have as much of a change that way . Maybe you could find a spot in your home that a little more stable, heat wise to move your tank to , if you can[imo] . Just a thought , but what kind of lights are you running , and how long are they on ?

My thoughts exactly. If you ave incadescent lights, and leave them on for longer than an hour then your temperature will rise and keep rising. I had this problem in my 10 gallon, I fixed it however by buying flourescent lights that screw in just like the incadescent lights. They aren't that expensive either.

How big is your tank, and what size heater and lighting do you have????

GL
that's a few good questions

its a 46g, and its not next to a window. i have flourescent lights also, on for about 12 hours a day. and i have a 150W heater, about 2 months old, so i should think that is fine.

i have my heater set up to about 78 right now, and it gets so hot in arizona already, almost 90, its heating up the house, thus heating up the aquarium...

Hmmm I am surprised. 150w, isn't enough for a 46 gallon tank if you go by the 1 watt per 5 gallon rule.

But like you said you live in arizona.......(lucky lucky you! I used to live in New Mexico and want to move back soooo bad! Its beautiful down there) .......... Maybe you should try setting your heater to 65 or 70. That way it will only come on when absolutely neccesary......

What kind of heater is it though? Sounds like the one I have for my 10 gallon (although only 50 watts) It never stays stable. I just deal with it by adjusting it every single day.

the thing it still gets kinda chilly at night still, so et goes down to 76, which would change to much
