Since people I have spoken to haven't seen or heard of the Telmatochromis Temporalis Swell, I have tried to get some pics of this placid little Tanganyika Cichlid. I have a breeding pair in my 48L fishbox.

I've even taken a pic of the second batch of fry I've had from them. Apologies for the quality of the pics but the curved front of the fishbox doesn't lend itself very well to photos

I've searched lots of places on the internet but haven't come across much info on the "swell" variety with the enlarged forehead.

Tank: 48L fishbox - ph8.0, temp 25deg

nice to see pictures of a 'rareity' on the forum. Congrats on the successful breading.

Where did you find them, were they just a surprise find at a lfs?

I bought the tank and the user didn't know what he had and offered me them as they wouldn't go into his community. He bought them from an LFS from a mixed cichlid tank and apparently didn't pay much as he couldn't remember the price.

would love to know what they're worth as I can find anywhere in the UK that sells them, and trust me I've looked

Wow, they look very Steatocranus (Lionhead cichlids from riverine Africa) like. Do they have a reduced swim bladder, making them "hop-swim" across the floor normally?

No they are free swimming. I know what you are talking about though as I looked for that before I took them

just seen this thread. ive only seen these for sale once and i nearly had some when i was looking for shellies. im sure they were £12 for 4 as thats what i payed for my calliurus.

Congratulations on the fry :good: Nice to see another fishbox46, I have a couple of Tangs in my one at the moment also. Really unusual looking fish there mate, be nice to see some more on the scene here in the U.K. , have seen them over on shell dwellers but I'm sure you're the first on TFF :good: Congrats again, be nice to see a progress every so often to see how they grow and behave with each other :good:

kiriyama, ive put up some pics of my shellies if youve not seen them. :)

Would this be the link ? :good:
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with in the 65gall  , I've scrapped the plan for the 36"x15"x15" Tang "show tank", going for something really basic and low tech. Watch this space (January :hyper: )
:fish:
