Telling Apart

Well the breeder of were I get my bettas has let me use the following pictures of his bettas. Hes explaining how to tell plakat females apart from Halfmoon Females. First let me start by saying that the plakat females have way shorter fins. While the fancy type like the halfmoon have very big fins. Here are some pictures he let me borrow.

The following is a female Halfmoon Rose-Tail

As u can see her fins are very long from normal plakat females

Heres the plakat female as u can see her fins are very short compared to the above female

They are some cases were they breed Long-fin and short fin togethere this is were the Geno comes in were long variety females have plakat Geno. And were Plakat females have Long-fin Geno.

Thanks, Joker, that clears things up a lot. Just curious--people cross plakats with longfin strains? What comes out of it? I came across an article somewhere in the net that said it would only result in veils...

Long fins are dominant and crossing in a plakat will perk up the finnage of your HMs Pretty much do the opposite of creating veils

Joker-I'm not claiming to be an expert, but that first female I would think be faulted for having too much male finnage. Pretty fish though

Really? So it's ok to cross the two? Coz I was looking at this plakat I liked, but as he was a little expensive and there were no females available, I didn't get him. If I could pair him up with my delta girl, I might rethink that decision...

However--if longtail is dominant, I guess that means the offspring will all be deltas? Can I get plakats again in the 3rd generation?
