Recently I saw some calico telescope eyes at my LFS, and although I haven't wanted to own goldfish in YEARS, I absolutely love these guys. I was just wondering, would it be possible to keep one in a 10 gallon if I had an obscene amount of filtration going? I've heard the minimum tank size for goldfish is 20 gallons or so, but since this particular variety doesn't get anywhere near as large as a common, I figured one might be able to make an exception?

ive always believed that one fancy gf can live happily in 10 gallons of water. you may hear differently from others of course. :)

Yeah... I don't see why not, as long as one keeps the water spotlessly clean... it seems like that would be enough room for just one?

IMO a 10 inch fish thats got the swimming problems of a fancy goldfish can't be happy in a tank only 10.5 inches wide, go for a 20 for one fish and a 30 for two

I agree - you wouldn't keep a near full-grown clown loach in a 10 gallon (or a 20 for that matter) - why should a goldfish be any different (yes I know clown loaches are social - well so are goldfish actualy :p - and actualy get bigger than fancy goldfish but you get my point).

Ah. I had heard that demekin only get about 5 or 6 inches long... I guess I'll wait until I have a bigger tank to get one.
