well, i wanted to see if Donny was still spunky (he's been hanging around near the heater a lot lately, just hanging there) so i put a mirror up at feeding time. he looked at me like "Fine, I'll do the flare-y thing!" and did so. i finally saw the Veil completely stretched out, all the rays 'connect' at the end eh?
i did the same to Pierce, who was much more enthusiastic about defending his territory. he tried to get the mirror and puffed up, then started SNAPPING. i saw flashes of tiny white teeth as he tried to bite his reflection! i didn't think Betta teeth were that big
anyway, i've finally come to the conclusion Pierce is a weird Veil/Delta hybrid with Combtail characteristics. his tail doesn't do the connect-y thing that Donny's did, but all the rays ended on their own in a nice jagged-edged flag. i checked for signs of fin rot, none it's just a very nice little Comb on the edge of his tail! i'd get pictures, but without flash you can't see him, and with it you can't see him!
