:/ i recently saw a bid on aquabid.com for 2 teacup stingrays for 35 $. I have a 39 gallon tank with silica sand and community fish...balashark..rainbow shark..pleco...cory..etc... do you think i could put a sting ray in my tank???

Absolutely not. Reasons:

1) your tank isn't big enough. 'teacup' refers to the current size of the ray, not the species. Very few rays are less than a foot across as adults.

2) You have a pleco which love to suck the slime coat off rays. this would kill it

3) They are extremely hard to keep, need absolutely perfect water and even minor fluctuations will kill it fast.

4) You have small fish which will become dinner very quickly (assuming the ray settles in and starts eating)

alright thanks!!! didnt think it would be a good idea... they would be fun to have tho

the other thing... im starting a pirahna tank!!!! im setting it up making it look like a jungle.. IM gettin about 3 red belly pirahnas. its gonna be sweet
my lfs sells feshwater barracudas.. they would be fun also! :fish:

Yes indeed! I've always wanted one too, but I don't have the room/time/money to keep them properly.
ditto that. My LFS said I should get a stingray when I got my new tank, but I had to tell them that they wouldn't live with plecs and that in my area they'd need RO water, and lots of looking after. I have a lot of respect for people who succesfully keep them.
Good to see you've decided against them bbq1234, I think for most people stingrays are best admired in public aquaria and the wild!!
