Thank you very informativeDo you realize what gets measured by a TDS meter/monitor? Here are some of things it includes:
Ions such as ammonium or nitrate as well as others. Dissolved organics as well as non-organic material. As a rule of thumb, I think they are anything that is under two microns in size in the water.
Pure water is a bad conductor of electricity. It is the stuff dissolved in the water that conducts the electricity. A TDS meter is actually a conductivity meter that uses a formula to convert microsiemens to PPM.
So when fish poop in water, when they exhale, when old food or dead plant parts dissolve, they all contribute to TDS. The water out of the tap should not contain a lot of what makes up TDS in a tank. Even dechlor can contribute to TDS and nitrate is an ion, so the cycle itself contributes to TDS.
The one thing that TDS does not tell us is what the things dissolved in the water are.
