I have a youngish female gouramie I have just seperated from the main tank because I noticed her struggling to swim. Her spine is bent and it very much reminds me of tb. She is still eating, hasn't lost her good colour etc. Water params (Cos I know you like em) Ammonia 0, NitrItes 0, NitrAtes at last check 12.5. Tank temp around 25 degrees C and ph of a shade under 8.
Naturally I took her out immediately on discovering her shape but.....she's always been the one who was hiding in the undergrowth, bottom of the pecking order and never grew as big as the others. Is it possible she's ended up growing deformed because she never swam as freely as the others and chose to wrap herself in plants as she grew up? :/ What I think of when I look at her (Apart from tb) is that her spine continued to grow while the rest didn't. It worries me either way of course and I am aware gouramies are susceptable to tb.
What can I do?
Hugs,
P.

Ok, it's been a week since posting this. Have kept her seperated in good water conditions. She's still eating and seems bright despite the swimming difficulties. This morning she was most definitely less bent through her spine. Almost able to hold herself straight. The only med that's been in the tank is a small amount of melafix and not regularly. Can fish recover from such things? :/ I am hoping she does pull through this of course but if it's not tb (and a deformity wouldn't change) then what could be the cause?
Hugs,
P.

Sorry but i never heard of a fish with a bent spine, recovering it going straight again sorry.

Can't say I have either you see. Hence being at a total loss. Wish I had pics of it now. She's not entirely straight but so much more then she was. I came that close to euthanising her at the end of last week. Now I don't know what to think! I have heard of fish with tb recovering after a med I can't remember the name of, but I haven't given her anything. Am confuddled. But really want her to pull through from this. Maybe there's something to be said for will power.
Hugs,
P.

They can survive a while with a bent spine, you will no when as you can tell when they have had enough, sorry, just not a happy ending with a bent spine.
